Beverly Hills Cop is a 1984 comedy starring Eddie Murphy. The film was one of Eddy Murphy’s career boosting roles. Syvester Stallone was originally supposed to play Murphy's role as Axel Foley, but producers decided to go a different route when Stallone wanted more action in the film, which could not be afforded. The popular film earned an estimated $234mm in its run at the box office and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Comedy/Musical category.


The story follows Axel Foley, a Detroit cop, whose visiting friend from California is murdered. Foley then heads to Beverly Hills to find out why his fried was killed. Once in California, he enlists the help of two local detectives to help him get to the bottom of his friends death.


Beverly Hills Cop also won a Grammy Award for its soundtrack at for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. The best known and recognizable track from the soundtrack was “Axel F,” an instrumental. Others songs from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack include: “The Heat Is On,” “Gratitude,” “New Attitude,” “Stir it Up,” and “Neutron Dance.”
