The movie revolves around Pink Panther, the largest diamond in the world which Princess Dala is presented by her father when she is a child. It is called Pink Panther due to its unusual flaw. If the diamond is stared into for long enough, one can see the illusion of what appear to be a panther. When Dala becomes a young woman, rebels seize the rule of her country and demand her to return the diamond.
Dala goes on a holiday to a skiing resort where she meets Sir Charles Litton, who is secretly the jewel thief, The Phantom. His nephew, a playboy, also travels to the resort attempting to steal it for himself and blame “The Phantom” for the mysterious theft not really aware of the fact that his own uncle is the infamous crook. Later, on he becomes an accessory to the crime.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau is hot on Phantom’s trail and looks everywhere for him except the right place. The plot becomes hot as the reality of each character is unmasked. The inspector’s wife is a helper of the Phantom. In spite of the Inspector being clueless, he manages to get hold of Charles and his accomplices. His wife then tricks him into being declared as an alternative suspect as well. What happens after that is for you the find out. I will, however tell you the last dialogue of the movie, when the criminal is finally convicted and asked how he managed to pull off all the previous thefts he has just one line to utter, “Well, it wasn’t easy…”
An enjoyable movie with a most creative plot and out of the world characters. A new version has been made recently but the earlier one is worth the watch.
