Music Trivia

With President Jimmy Carter ushering in the eighties, and President G.H.W. Bush taking office just before the decade ended, one of the most beloved presidents in modern times, Ronald Reagan, and "Reaganomics" saw most of us prosper in the 80's. In January of 1981, our newly inaugurated president said "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." His solution was to lower taxes and to limit the government regulation and allow the self-correcting "invisible hand" of free enterprise to assert itself.

Further, the eighties saw fashion take a drastic turn toward big, big hair, permed to new heights, mullets (now, the ultimate sign of bad taste, and the butt of many jokes) and Miami Vice inspired starched and flipped collars, rolled jacket sleeves, and shoes, sans socks. Material girl, Madonna, was touted as "the new Marilyn Monroe," and rocksters like Duran Duran ruled the music scene, while raising the eyebrows of adults everywhere with their slightly lined and mascara coated lashes.

In the bygone eighties days, "Milk, it does a body good" was the phrase of the day for milk lovers, with milk drinkers gracing commercials, and saying things like, "Michael Martin, I don't even exist in your life. 'Cause all you see is a person's outside. Well, I'm a beautiful person inside and milk's giving me a lot of what I need for strong bones, beautiful skin and a great smile. And by the time my outside catches up with my inside I'll have long since outgrown you; and you'll be history," and an announcer saying, "milk, it does a body good," before transforming the little girl into a beautiful eighties lady.
